Occasionally it is necessary to grade foredunes (seaward edges) to protect buildings, landscape and views. These photos show the respectful, and highly regulated, process to accomplish this.
First, dune grass is harvested and set aside for replanting after the grading is completed.
Carefully following a geologist's grid, the sand is pushed into the low tide water line so that the sand can re-enter the littoral cell and eventually migrate south where sand is scarce.
The grass is then replanted and will return to its pre-graded state.
